Photoshop CS4 and CS5 have the ability to utilize step-and-repeat transformations on vector masks. This provides for a powerful way to produce fancy designs in minutes. Vector shapes are also the ideal way to create designs that you want to upscale or downscale (that is enlarge or shrink) without a loss of definition.

The technique described here allows you to create growing or reducing spirals out of shapes with absolute ease and tremendous flexibility.
